Long exposure using the 6-stop ND filter. I found this large root system on the beach and set it up to be the foreground in the composition. Went to my camera to photograph, but it fell over. Repeated this about 6 times racing against the sun going down and losing needed light. Finally managed to be quick enough to capture while it remained upright.
Love your story, the tree, the smooth water, the diagonal. I wonder re cropping from top to above the middle group of clouds so horizon not so close to middle
@jgpittenger I see what you mean and did do a version like that, but ended up liking this one a bit more. The other one, you're right, is all about the driftwood with the sunset fading into the background. I think it's an image I'll play around with for a bit. I also think there's a b&w image in there as well. And NO idea why that MW shot isn't on PP! I'd assumed it would be there and end up on TT as well. It's such a beauty! I have had that happen, though -- photos with tons of favs not appearing on PP. And others with hardly any being on it.
So beautiful Taffy and loved your story too - I can just see and hear you! Lol! @jgpittenger@taffy I have given up trying to fathom out why something gets on PP! Last week one of mine with 3 favs was there and another with over 20 was not! It's those monkeys again! Anyway fav for your efforts and lovely result!
Well, you were ultimately very successful. I like the story, and wonder if anyone was watching you as you ran back and forth tackling the root and getting it to stay put! It would have looked amusing! Great capture.
Just goes to show persistence pays off, would've loved to see the action, must've been hilarious. But the shot was worth it, not every day we see an alien that's just landed.
Wow Taffy - so this is what a long exposure, with a filter and a good camera, and someone who really knows what they are doing, can produce!! It is just beautiful in so many ways. :)
I too had a bit of a giggle at the thought of your repeated efforts - sorry to be laughing at your expense. I didn't see your first versions, but very much like the way this one is cropped. Im happy for the horizon and the changing colours of sea and sky emanating from this, to be my main focus for the image. The long exposure seems to bring much benefit to the scene.
As much as I love b&w, for me this color version is the more compelling image, I think it comes down to the composition of this capture more than the color!
