Water Snake on the Beach by taffy

Water Snake on the Beach

Taffy (to Jim): Want to go for a walk? I can go by myself with my camera, or we can go for one together. I’d leave my camera behind if we both go.
Jim (long pause): Where would we walk?
Taffy: Anywhere you want, and it’s totally up to you. I don’t need to take my camera. You choose.
Jim: Okay…the beach.
Taffy: Great…should I take my camera?
Jim: (silent glare)
So, no camera, but I did have my iPhone when we happened upon this water snake – it’s true that the best camera is the one with you, even if it’s a phone!
Oh, nice! Love the squiggly line he makes for your composition.

Wow...great shot and details...It's not the camera, it's the photographer.
September 5th, 2017
Awesome picture.
September 5th, 2017
Oh my dear Taffy---WHY ??????😱
September 5th, 2017
Oh my gosh, I'd be running for the hills! Glad to hear my husband isn't the only one who gets sick of my camera :)
September 5th, 2017
Your right the best camera is the one you have with you, great shot but I would be running away!
My husband and I have similar conversations when it comes to going for a walk and I'm planning on carrying my camera! :)
September 5th, 2017
Nicely captured!
September 5th, 2017
The IPhone 7 takes great pictures. This one is evidence.
September 5th, 2017
Love the story. I think most of us have been there.
September 5th, 2017
Excellent shot, I don't think it could be any better with a different camera! fav
September 5th, 2017
We saw one today in Ann Arbor!
September 5th, 2017
Wow... snakes on the beach. I find that disturbing!
September 5th, 2017
Ewwwwwww! Creepy! Icky! Ugh!
September 5th, 2017
Haha - like the way you have described the conversation, one that we 365ers probably know all too well! And thank heavens the phones nowadays have such good cameras - great shot!
September 5th, 2017
Most fab shot. I would have been running away, I HATE snakes!
September 5th, 2017
Oh wow!
September 5th, 2017
ha ha....I know that conversation....and I also know the basic premise that no camera = great wildlife sitings.
Cracking shot of the snake...very close range with an iPhone.
September 5th, 2017
Giggles and grand shot!
September 5th, 2017
I think we are familiar with this sort of conversation but my hubby just looks at his phone and plays games while I photograph! He doesn't mind at all. The thing is to get him walking!
September 5th, 2017
It looks a big snake - and frightening but water snakes aren't all venomous?
September 5th, 2017
Sweet capture and love the dialogue.
September 5th, 2017
What a great catch. Luckily both David and I take cameras when we go out walking, although David doesn't take as many photos as I do these days. His interests have moved on to other things.
September 5th, 2017
oh you cheated taking your phone! lol i have to say saying you wouldnt take your camera and then asking permission to take it could have deserved a glare ! ..usually if i dont take my camera he will spend the whole time poiinting out great shots i am missing sigh.
September 5th, 2017
Should have taken the camera
September 5th, 2017
OMG, gives a whole new slant on beach-combing. What a shame you left your camera behind.
September 5th, 2017
Well the phone took a great image of this snake! Fabulous photo. Interesting conversation! My camera goes everywhere with me at the moment - but I do get digs about it.
September 5th, 2017
Oh I can just hear you having this conversation! So funny! At least you got him walking and you still had the iPhone up your sleeve as they say! Great capture but I would have been running in the opposite direction! Fav!
September 5th, 2017
A magnificent shot, fav! ( love the conversation)
September 5th, 2017
This is one reason I love NZ... we have no snakes.. but the iphone did a great job..
September 5th, 2017
Great shot from your phone, but like others, I would not have been taking a photo, I would've been running!
Love your narrative too.
September 5th, 2017
Great shot
September 5th, 2017
Love your story and yes the best camer is the one you have with you but oh dear a bit scary glad we dont have any here
September 5th, 2017
Taffy - your story sounds so familiar - just replace "Jim" with "Errol"!! Is your water snake venomous?
September 5th, 2017
Funny story and I love the shot! Really well done with the iphone!
September 5th, 2017
What lovely markings the snake has :)
September 5th, 2017
I hope you weren't walking barefoot when you met him. It would have been scary. A great crisp capture of this snake. My son takes shots which are even better than an SLR'S with his smartphone.
September 5th, 2017
Love the funny conversation! My iPhone IS my camera so I carry it everywhere now! Scary snake but nice capture! :)
September 5th, 2017
Great conversation !! and a super find and capture . Of course one doesn't go walking without the iPhone !! -- fab and a fav !
September 5th, 2017
Love the conversation. And still a good and scary shot. iPhones are pretty good cameras.
September 5th, 2017
I'm chuckling over your conversation! I have to say that my camera has made me fearless - I'll stick my face (with camera attached) into a flower full of buzzing, stinging insects. Unheard of before 365!
September 5th, 2017
Okay you can keep the snakes
September 5th, 2017
Ha, that conversation sounds familiar!! Love this snake, they are creatures that fascinate me. Love the patterns in the sand.
September 5th, 2017
Yikes. Great capture but scary.
September 5th, 2017
@maggiemae The nice thing about Beaver Island is that none of the snakes are venomous/poisonous. So when we see one, it's simply a matter of respecting their territory, not fearing them. They can be annoying though as they eat the frogs which I find to be much cuter to have around! And they can get into drains and clog things up.
September 5th, 2017
@elkereturns Same here...things I would have totally avoided (and heights too), I now tackle for the good of getting the photo!
September 5th, 2017
Lovely shot of nature...fav
September 5th, 2017
Great capture. Fav!! 😀
September 5th, 2017
A great shot!!
September 5th, 2017
Eek! Great capture
September 5th, 2017
Funny story, fabulous shot
September 5th, 2017
Kas
oh my! Danger on the beaches. My wee corner of the world is so tame in comparison!
September 5th, 2017
Sorry I did not look at this shot very long, I hate snakes
September 5th, 2017
Fun dialog and great shot
September 5th, 2017
Funny , made me laugh and you still got a cracking shot . . I'm so lucky my husband actually plans days so I have somewhere to take my camera.
September 5th, 2017
Your comments gave me a laugh. Very brace capture!
September 6th, 2017
Your conversation sounds so familiar! Isn't it amazing that you can get such a great photo on your phone thee days?
September 6th, 2017
Your Iphone has done a great job. Love that conversation and your generosity of spirit in making the no camera offer and then sticking to it. I understand how difficult that might have been.
September 6th, 2017
Wow! Awesome shot. iPhones have pretty great cameras! Your conversation is repeated throughout the 365 community at least ten times a day, I'm sure!
September 6th, 2017
Great story and your phone did great
September 6th, 2017
Brilliant phone shot xx
September 6th, 2017
Lovely shot! Love the footprints next to it and the way its little tongue is flicking out.
September 6th, 2017
Great capture and focus.
September 7th, 2017
LOved the commentary, one many of us here have had also with our respective other halves! Super phone shot!
September 7th, 2017
Amazing commentary - and the silent glare LOL!!! :) :) Wonderful photo, he's so cute! And I love what you said about the best camera (it's the one you have with you)!
September 11th, 2017
You and Jim are hysterical! I'd far rather see this on the beach than encounter it bumping my leg in the water! With no phone to fall back on, I couldn't leave without the camera! It does take very impressive photos...
