Lone Figure in Federal Plaza by taffy

Lone Figure in Federal Plaza

Getting back to photographing only this time I had to use my iPhone as the snow was so wet I was willing to risk my phone but not my good camera. Taken on a walk home from meeting a friend from graduate school days. Her daughter is now in graduate school and wasn't born when we last got together.

Thank you for your kind wishes an shared stories.
Fab-u-lous - a very dramatic scene with the dark figure walking through the snow and the flash of red uplifting the sombre scene ! B

Beautiful image Taffy - great from an iPhone! Love the reflections in the wet pavement. Not the kind of Day to be wandering round with your camera! Fav!
February 18th, 2018
wonderful drama. the wet snow makes its own texture overlay
February 18th, 2018
Interesting that Beryl used the word "uplifting" when I think, though red, on such a day the down-turned lines give this a very somber tone. The picture is really spectacular...different from your warm indoor wood tones, but quite spectacular artistically! Hoping to see it rise to the Top Twenty...it's deserving!

Incredible picture.
February 18th, 2018
excellent ❤️ fav
February 18th, 2018
Love that you captured the lone figure hunched against the weather.
February 19th, 2018
Quite a striking image. Seems as if the artwork is itself striding in the direction of the walker.
February 19th, 2018
wonderful, I love it even better that it has the rain
February 19th, 2018
Wow...Superb image...great composition, reflections, sense of scale
February 19th, 2018
The red structure and its reflection makes the lone figure look really small, very atmospheric image.
February 19th, 2018
I love that pop of red. Are you off to Africa this month?
February 19th, 2018
@888rachel Thanks, Rachel! Alas, on top of everything else that was happening, Jim ended up having heart-system surgery (carotid artery blockage) and has one more procedure to go, so we had to postpone. Not our best winter...but just glad they discovered the problem before anything dire happened to him. Life is feeling a bit fragile these days!
February 19th, 2018
@taffy Oh, I'm so sorry Taffy. I hope that Jim recovers well from all the surgery. So glad you caught it early too, so you can both go together later. Africa's not going anywhere.
February 19th, 2018
Beautiful SC shot, and I love how you captured the snow.
February 19th, 2018
Very dramatic and a great capture with a phone!
February 19th, 2018
Perfect pop of red... great reflection on the wet pavers.... weather looks awful!
February 19th, 2018
This is a wonderful snow scene, love the Calder sculpture and it’s reflection on the black and grey, wet pavement. Really a great phone shot! Fav.
February 19th, 2018
Brilliant capture. Stunning contrast of the sculpture and the surrounds.
February 19th, 2018
Terrific.
February 19th, 2018
we're having good weather here for a change, but nothing good to photograph as all are brown and dull. great capture of the wet snow falling. hope it dissipated into nothing afterwards. i hate wet snow when it turns to black ice and make everywhere dangerously icy.

Simply magnificent, awesome image. Fav
February 19th, 2018
A stunning winter capture - so hard to imagine as I bask in the sun :) fav
February 19th, 2018
This really tells a story Taffy. I don't know that I would be brave enough to be standing outside taking photos. Hat's off to you :)
February 19th, 2018
superb shot and use of colour
February 19th, 2018
Love the texture and the vibrant color of the sculpture.
February 19th, 2018
Matches your emotions Taffy?
February 19th, 2018
Awesomeness!
February 19th, 2018
Almost a pencil or charcoal drawing quality to this one. With his head down, you wonder if the guy has even noticed this huge red statue bearing down on him! I like the tiny little golden light through its arches in that doorway.
February 19th, 2018
So sorry you are going through such a difficult time Taffy. I hope things begin to look up soon. Love this picture. Brilliant shot with or without an iPhone. Fav
February 19th, 2018
Ha ha ... I thought you were in La Défense for a minute! Super capture of this iconic sculpture.
February 19th, 2018
A great composition - but, having never seen this sculpture before I was mainly interested in it and it's fascinating structure. It appears to be slightly transparent - or maybe I'm just not used to recognizing the effect of falling snow? Very interesting.
February 19th, 2018
How fabulous is this!?! Stunning in B&W with that POP of red in the sleet or snow...wow! FAV. No dissing the iPhone...it did its job with flying colors! :)
February 19th, 2018
Wonderful, you have captured the bleakness but the pop of red shows me that there is brightness on the horizon. fav
February 19th, 2018
Very striking
February 19th, 2018
this is spectacular - and such a perfect illustration of the various components of design coming together to create a work of art.
February 19th, 2018
Wonderful splash or red
February 19th, 2018
Wow - what a stunner!! Fav.
February 19th, 2018
@robz Thanks Rob. Actually, the sculpture is a bright orange-red. Here's a link to its description: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flamingo_(sculpture)

Superb bright red color in the dreary rain. Awesome shot!!
February 19th, 2018
@taffy Thanks Taffy for going to that bother. It is an incredible structure - and not at all transparent!! LOL. Chicago, as seen through your eyes, is a city which seems to have so much to offer. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)
February 19th, 2018
Fab use of selective colour
February 19th, 2018
Great shot
February 19th, 2018
Wonderful use of colour
February 19th, 2018
Wow love the sc and lone figure!
February 20th, 2018
@robz Chicago's a great city, with wonderful public art and award winning architecture, plus a river, trains, and a lake and all kinds of neighborhoods. Really, it doesn't get much better than this (except in terms of weather!
February 20th, 2018
This give even the buildings personality- exceptional! Fav.
February 20th, 2018
@taffy We've only been for very short visits to the tourist spots. Since being on 365 many other places have started to call out. Maybe a longer, America only, trip is in the future. Chicago would definitely be there - but in spring! Cheers and thanks

Fantastic evocative street image. I usually do not like sc but this one approaches a dramatic level that cannot be denied fav

@darsphotos It was a lovely night with my friend, and a great surprise to see the iPhone work out so well as a camera!
