Such a beautiful day so I went for a walk while waiting for some friends to arrive by train. Sunday meant little traffic downtown so it was perfect for capturing the structure under the Elevated train. This was taken beneath the Brown Line, looking south.
If I were ever able to get into this magic place I doubt I'd ever come out. Right up my alley, in spades. This is a wonderfully detailed shot of the intricate historical riveted ironwork and firders used to make this complex structure. There is so much to see here that I'll need to come back to it. Brilliant shot, perfect for b&w.
@redandwhite THanks! The tones are largely from playing with the sliders within Silver Efex and Lightroom. The main ones I adjust are clarity and contrast, as well as black and white, in LR, and in Silver Efex, I work with structure, brightness, and contrast sliders. It’s really just a matter of tweaking in LR while it’s in color, and then exporting to Silver Efex to convert to b&w, tweaking there, and bringing back into LR for the final work. Sometimes I just convert in LR, but not this one. (And this was HDR, so processed initially in Photomatix)
@nzkites I’m glad you’re enjoying the website! It becomes very addictive, I’ve found. Year 1 I was quite faithful to the take a shot, process, and post each day, to develop the daily habit. Then, each year I have a different goal. I’ve made so many friends on the site that I miss it when I don’t have time - life does sometimes get in the way.
@moonmtn Thanks Kahsia. I should have replied to you as well in my response above. Processing was HDR to start (3 shots, handheld), then processed in LR in color. Then exported to Silver Efex for converting to B & W, and then once back in LR, final tweaking.
@redy4et Yes, I tried to get right in the middle — it took three tries, and this was the best, because while I would get to the center, I had to keep my eye on the ‘walk’ symbol to make sure the light hadn’t changed. There wasn’t a lot of traffic, but there were still cars behind me waiting at the light.
What a super image!! The architecture is industrial and rugged but with such nice symmetry. As usual, your photo is stunning and I just love the effect you have used. If that modern car wasn't there it would have the feel of a vintage, architectural lithograph. Fabulous!!
The structure here reminds me of M C Esher's work with the way you have processed it. I love the way you can see so far back, taken by the leading lines of the light patches. Most excellent.
Such a great shot on so many levels- of course I especially like that it's in black and white which really brings out that gritty city feel. It reminds me of similar shots of NYC's elevated train tracks. fav
