Infrastructure

Such a beautiful day so I went for a walk while waiting for some friends to arrive by train. Sunday meant little traffic downtown so it was perfect for capturing the structure under the Elevated train. This was taken beneath the Brown Line, looking south.
Lots of great shapes and lines and so interesting looking. Great pov and processing, too.

This is amazing. I love all the architectural detail, but how did you get these tones? It looks like a finely executed pen and ink drawing.
March 12th, 2018
Wow, I love the processing. wonderful leading lines and shadows
March 12th, 2018
Your processing is superb Taffy, well done
March 12th, 2018
Fabulous city shot.
March 12th, 2018
A very detailed and interesting image. How do you manage to keep up the 365 project for five years? We are enjoying participating in this website/

Fantastic shot. Love the processing and that it's b&w.

Awesome composition and capture.

This is great. Would make an exceptionally challenging jigsaw!

If I were ever able to get into this magic place I doubt I'd ever come out. Right up my alley, in spades. This is a wonderfully detailed shot of the intricate historical riveted ironwork and firders used to make this complex structure. There is so much to see here that I'll need to come back to it. Brilliant shot, perfect for b&w.
March 12th, 2018
Great photo. What sort of processing did you do?
March 12th, 2018
This is so incredible! It reminds me of structures my son built with his erector set.
March 12th, 2018
superb processing as always
March 12th, 2018
Wow, you captured so much detail in this photo, Taffy. Great processing too. FAV

March 12th, 2018
wow..thats amazing processing
March 12th, 2018
Goodness, very complex but great that there was little traffic, so we can see it all!
March 12th, 2018
This is so detailed it does resemble a pen and ink drawing! did you stand in the middle of the street to get the shot?
March 12th, 2018
Superlative edit! Renders like an Escher engraving!
March 12th, 2018
Love the processing, what a great shot.
March 12th, 2018
What a great shot ! Really nice processing.
March 12th, 2018
Really cool processing, very gritty. Nice!
March 12th, 2018
The El is really quite a complex structure, isn't it? Like a huge Meccano set. I am enjoying all the lovely lines and patterns.
March 12th, 2018

Wonderful mix of lines
March 12th, 2018
Lovely lines, symmetry and urban feel. So much interest under the El.
March 12th, 2018
Lots of detail pulled together by those strong, converging lines. There's something particularly appealing about the light play on the road.
March 12th, 2018
beautiful architecture photo
March 12th, 2018
The converging lines give a real sense of distance. Amazing detail in the structure Fav
March 12th, 2018
I love all the detail :)

March 12th, 2018
Just perfect! FAV
March 12th, 2018
Love the processing and scene - fav!

@redandwhite THanks! The tones are largely from playing with the sliders within Silver Efex and Lightroom. The main ones I adjust are clarity and contrast, as well as black and white, in LR, and in Silver Efex, I work with structure, brightness, and contrast sliders. It’s really just a matter of tweaking in LR while it’s in color, and then exporting to Silver Efex to convert to b&w, tweaking there, and bringing back into LR for the final work. Sometimes I just convert in LR, but not this one. (And this was HDR, so processed initially in Photomatix)

@nzkites I’m glad you’re enjoying the website! It becomes very addictive, I’ve found. Year 1 I was quite faithful to the take a shot, process, and post each day, to develop the daily habit. Then, each year I have a different goal. I’ve made so many friends on the site that I miss it when I don’t have time - life does sometimes get in the way.

@moonmtn Thanks Kahsia. I should have replied to you as well in my response above. Processing was HDR to start (3 shots, handheld), then processed in LR in color. Then exported to Silver Efex for converting to B & W, and then once back in LR, final tweaking.
March 12th, 2018
@elkereturns Thanks — yes, HDR using 3 shots, handheld.
March 12th, 2018
Stunning - I agree with all of the responses above. Really love this shot!!
March 12th, 2018
@blueberry1222 Thanks so much for the link. I wasn’t aware of him at all and the work is amazing!
March 12th, 2018
@redy4et Yes, I tried to get right in the middle — it took three tries, and this was the best, because while I would get to the center, I had to keep my eye on the ‘walk’ symbol to make sure the light hadn’t changed. There wasn’t a lot of traffic, but there were still cars behind me waiting at the light.
March 12th, 2018
Incredible shot...I love the details of all of the lines...great leading line and vanishing point.
March 12th, 2018
Fantastic shot Taffy and it brings back lovely memories of our visit to Chicago Fav
March 12th, 2018
Fabulous shot, great clarity, the HDR brings out all the details - fav
March 12th, 2018
Well done.
March 12th, 2018
What a super image!! The architecture is industrial and rugged but with such nice symmetry. As usual, your photo is stunning and I just love the effect you have used. If that modern car wasn't there it would have the feel of a vintage, architectural lithograph. Fabulous!!
March 12th, 2018
Fantastic shot. Fav
March 12th, 2018
This is amazing!
March 12th, 2018
excellent processing
March 12th, 2018
The structure here reminds me of M C Esher's work with the way you have processed it. I love the way you can see so far back, taken by the leading lines of the light patches. Most excellent.
March 12th, 2018
I absolutely love the details and your choice of making this b/w! HUGE FAV!
March 12th, 2018
Such a great shot on so many levels- of course I especially like that it's in black and white which really brings out that gritty city feel. It reminds me of similar shots of NYC's elevated train tracks. fav
March 12th, 2018
Love your processing.....,,,so much to look at!
