I Used to Be a Bridge but Now I'm a Relic

Andie @ukandie1 and I took off on a new photo 'walk' (well, ride) when we say half-price tickets available (yay, Hottix) for the architectural foundation's river tour. Lining the river are bridges that rise to allow the taller boats to travel to and from Lake Michigan. This is on the north fork.
Check out Andie's 'street photography from the boat' shot at: https://365project.org/ukandie1/365/2018-05-01
@ukandie1 -- Of course, my shot is all about structures!

I really love your processing on this! I wonder how many years it will be before those river cottages make way for something bigger?

Awesome picture.

Great shot. The background looks almost like an illustration. Did you use some sort of special processing to accomplish that?

@mbrutus Thank you! I adjusted basics in Lightroom, and then used Silver Efex to convert it to b&w.

It looks like a giant crane! I imagine the lights and barriers before cars can approach this bridge like this!

A wonderful image Taffy showing such a variety of structures! I remember our Architectural foundation river tour as it was a fascinating view of the city from the boat. So interesting and so many opportunities for some great images. I also remember how cold it was and how we all froze! I am glad your day was warmer! Fav for your great B&w image!

Great shot and processing. Being in b & w it really brings out all the different lines and textures.

Needless to say this is a fav for me. Those bridges intrigue me both for their intrinsic appeal and the structures themselves. Perfect processing to highlight the different structures. I particularly like the way you've positioned the old-engineered bridge in front of a new-engineered building.

Fabulous image - the old relic doesn't look at all daunted by the modern buildings around it. Great composition.

It looks like you had a very productive photography ride. There's a real 3D feel to this photo, it looks as if I the raised bridge is popping out of the screen.

@casablanca For years I kept thinking it was ready to come down, and then I learned it literally is being saved as a sort of living museum. At least, that's what I was told. I'm still not sure that this is the case.

Love all the angles. The workings of this old bridge must be amazing.
