Returning to the Palouse for a bit as I continue to work through hundreds of photos. This was from 'Day 2.' We spotted this row of trees and Jane did a quick stop on the side of the road. It ended up being one of my favorite spots of the day. I ended up having a hard time choosing between b&w or color for this scene, so posted two versions - color is here: https://365project.org/taffy/365/2018-05-17
Thanks for all your funny comments on my window washer post! And yes, I was properly dressed, thank goodness! And, I actually had notice, but had forgotten that window washing was happening that day.
This is amazing Taffy I actually prefer this one but I do like B&W. It took me a moment to work it out. I saw this before the coloured one and at first glance I thought it was a beach and a huge wave! It's been a long day!! The sky with those layers is very effective Fav
I haven't looked at the colour yet & I am always a colour fan, once I've seen a colour version I am sold but must admit this looks like it can't be bettered to me at this minute, a big fave! These trees look like they are going to be swamped by a massive wave! On to the other version now!
I like both of them equally, but to me they are two different images with different strengths. Both are excellent. I see the coloured image as a particularly interesting and visually pleasing landscape and the b&w as an artistic interpretation of that landscape that emphasises the textures and light/shade. If I had to choose, I'd have to consider carefully where to hang it and/or show it, the context dictates the choice.
This made me think of the definition of "Surreal" - it just gave the impression of waves above a desert. What a fabulous find. It will interesting to see if it loses that impression in the colour version.
@busylady Thanks! The Palouse is an area of agriculture in eastern Washington state in the US. It's almost at the border of Washington and Idaho. It's known for it's spectacular lighting, rolling hills, and gorgeous colors from the different kinds of wheats, canola, peas, etc. We were there before all the plants had grown (mid-Spring) so we didn't have the color that we'd have seen in summer and fall, but still were quite amazed at the landscapes.
Wow! I visited this area a few years ago and the fires made it so hazy I couldn't get good shadows so everything looked flat. This is gorgeous. I vote for this b&w one.
This has simply luscious. I like the combination of the lines and curves. The clouds snap in B&W with a greater degree than color. The textures are exceptional. Fav.
@ksmale That's a shame. We didn't have the best weather, but there were enough spans of opportunity to make it a wonderful photo trip. I hope you get back there!
I like both versions, The colour has the advantage that the thin strip of cloud at the top does not distract, yet in the mono I feel cropping the cloud at the top would enhance the image as the brightness of that thin layer pulls the eye away from the interest in the lower part of the image.
I really do like black and white landscapes and this is my favourite despite the vibrant and varying colours of the fields in the other. Quite stunning - and I nearly missed it all together! Just love the line of clouds that matches the line of trees.
