Cultures "Connect" by taffy

Cultures "Connect"

Taken on Andie's and my visit to Chinatown. This photo is one of the two Fu Dogs protecting what is now one of the Chinese churches. If you look at the cornerstone plaque just behind the stature, you can see it was originally a Catholic church in what was originally an Italian neighborhood. In fact, one of the occasional congregants was Al Capone's (as in famous gangster) mother.
@ukandie1 Didn't get much in the way of architectural shots. Have one more to post, probably tomorrow.

I immediately spotted the "Madonna Incoronata" plaque. A stone melting pot!

Love your title! Interesting history of the building. Al Capone’s beautiful wooden boat used to be moored in Corpus Christi, it was quite a vessel.

What an interesting commentary on changing times. Really like the square format for this and the detail that you have brought out in the carving is remarkable. Lovely to see that wonderful stair rail too.

We lived in Asia when I was young and my parents brought home two blue porcelain dogs that look just like this one. They sit in their lounge room.

Wonder what Al's Mom would think of that.

Just love that juxtaposition, tells quite a story. A very interesting b&w.

Nice composition, light and the irony of the juxtaposition makes it even stronger

Interesting. Good that the church building is still used as a church.
