With teenagers around, I have assistants to 'play' with, letting them act like the kids they still are, but being 'cool' in the process. Splash courtesy of grandson's rock throwing efforts.
Good things from having teenagers around:
1. you can have assistants happily helping when spouses have gotten a bit tired of it
2. they eat all the leftovers so your food doesn't go to waste (and make you feel like whatever you have made to eat was exactly what they need, asking for more, including kale salad!)
3. they are entertaining especially when they aren't trying to be
4. they are up for going for walks, canoeing, etc., as long as it isn't before about 11:00 a.m.
5. they give us excuses to go out for ice cream when we would be better off without it, have s'mores on the beach, and make brownies
Less good things:
1. How hard is it to close a screen door, at nighttime, to keep remaining mosquitoes outside?
2. How hard is it to avoid a shower turning into opportunity to soak the bathroom floor?
3. How hard is it to simply flick the switch to turn off a light?
4. And why do I not simply turn down all the wonderful sugary items instead of consuming them and wondering why I am gaining weight during their visit!
Such a great photo, oh that splash! Teenagers are a roller coaster for sure. I just keep telling them about the doors and switches, I know they roll their eyes when I’m not looking but they do start closing doors and turning off lights. They don’t want to get the “Granny eye”, I’m pretty sure I could stare down a python. Lol.
Your assistants are doing a great job if helping you create this! What a well placed and well timed and well captured splash. As for the teenage habits, as long as the first list continues to be even just slightly longer than the second, it is worth it!
Sounds to me as though you and the teenagers are having a great time. If they didn't do everything on your second list you'd worry about them!! Lovely timing on a great shot
Wonderful splash - perfect positioning!! Well done to your assistant!! Both your lists made me laugh!! Sounds like you are having a wonderful time!! It will seem quiet when they have gone home!! Fav!
Taffy - I am just in awe of how you do these things!! What a photo. A magically clear water splash positioned in the perfect place against that coloured expanse and vertical stripe. :)
You made KALE salad for them?! I should have tagged along. Fun water splash at sunset time. Hello to all. Next you'll be telling me you made salmon salad.. .
Fun shot for fun times! Love the good things and after reading the not-so-good things, I'm beginning to think I might be married to a teenager in 60 year old skin.
@robz So very kind of you! But this time it was mostly about trying to find something I could do with my grandson. It all worked out quite nicely, I must say!
Totally magic shot, perfect timing. Your assistant may've thrown the rock, but you had to capture the splash, a challenge you've handled with great success, as usual. Love the pros and cons of teenagers in the house, very true, and equally funny. What's a s'moore please? The only ones I know are curries of a kind.
@golftragic Oh gosh -- you MUST try to have a s'more! Start with a graham cracker (do you have those -- not sure what else to call them -- kind of a wheatmeal cookie/cracker), marshmallows, and a chocolate bar. Place a 4-square or equivalent of the chocolate bar on a square graham cracker. Toast the marshmallow over a fire (outside if possible -- I admit, you can make in microwave in about 15 seconds, but it isn't as good), and then put the marshmallow on the chocolate with another graham cracker square on top. Squish down so marshmallow covers and melts the chocolate a bit, and eat. Very yummy!
@taffy OMG, my expanding waist-line grew an inch just reading that description. Sounds absolutely yummy and totally sinful. Thanks Taffy, I shall check out the link asap. We don't have graham crackers, but I'm sure there's an Aussie equivalent.
@taffy@golftragic Hi Taffy - I saw your reply to Marnie about the s'mores and just had to have a look. What a funny article - all the ups and downs of the experiment. The final double layer one definitely looked like it was worth a go!! Thanks for educating some aussies. :)
Great SPLASH and great timing with the sun just touching the horizon,
Love the colours too.
Sounds like life is quieter without them but a lot less fun!
I like this one, it made me smile. Clearly the Loch Ness Monster is on holiday over there and the teenagers are on the verge of catching it ;)
Enjoy the teenagers.................ha ha they eventually grow up!!
Love the colours too.
Sounds like life is quieter without them but a lot less fun!
