Junko and I spent the day at the Living Desert in Palm Desert, not far from where we're staying. It's beautiful - with walking trails, gardens, and a small 'zoo' that is very un-zoo-like in how the animals are contained (no cages except aviaries -- fairly large areas that were fenced, but open. The cheetahs are part of a program to restore the population, down from over 100,000 to about 7,000 today.

NOTE re Z7, for those interested. SAME problem of LED monitor stopping working happened today at about 370 photos taken. Camera would work through viewfinder, but not monitor. I talked with Nikon who suggested cleaning the sensor by the viewfinder. I think the problem may be a simple design flaw, where the eyepiece cover ends up flattening over time and covering the sensor which keeps the camera from switching between viewfinder and LED monitor. I hope that is the problem as it should be an easy fix for them and anyone buying the camera. Camera is too expensive for it to have such a ridiculous issue. Will test again tomorrow to see if the problem recurs...have fixed it for now.
Wonderful capture! Looks like you are having a fun break in CA! Shame about the camera - you don’t expect that with such an expensive piece of equipment!
Great shot. Such a nuisance to have that issue with the Z7, I have the Z6 now but haven't taken many photos with it yet. If this happens at least I'll know what the fault is!
I am back to using my old camera because I blew the new one by plugging it into my computer while camera on. Something I have done so many times with old one without a problem. Grrr Fab picture
Oh my - this is such a fantastic pose and your photograph looks like a wonderful illustration from a book. I love what you have done with this. Do hope the camera issue is resolved.
So wonderful to see. I'll have to check this place out when I drive to Tucson to see my daughter. We have a cheetah program here at our Wildlife Safari in Oregon, that's been quite successful. fav
@rosiekind I'd wait...I'm guessing there will be a design fix in their next round of production. I'm hoping that with mine, that was the only problem causing the screen not to work as I can deal with it manually for now at least. I do like the camera, it's feel, the images, but think generation 2 would be the better way to go (and would wait if I weren't traveling and needing the second camera body).
@rosiekind PS -- for moving animals, like birds, which I think of as part of your identity, you probably would prefer the Z6 as I'm finding the 7 is VERY slow shutter speed, especially compared to my regular D610.
So annoying to find that repetitive fault with the camera! Hope it is resolved now and stays gone.
