This was actually fairly hard to look at in color. I don't know why it is but in b&w the lions pulling on the zebra remains feels less disturbing. Filling in a missing spot but trying to maintain a Valentine's theme -- stretching it a bit to friendship in the wild.
Varying textures for flash of red that come through more than when viewed in color.
It's great in b&w
I understand about the colour too...the realities of life are often more confronting in colour....but then sometimes it's the opposite
I think your choice of mono for your lion shots works well. Not only is it not the normal choice but because their colouring is designed to make them blend into the background, in mono they stand out more.
Your title is perfect. Quite a vivid illustration of the food chain in the wild, albeit subdued by your processing. I, for one, thank you for your discretion.
A great choice of b/w for this scene . The coloured version would be a lot more disturbing for the faint-hearted ! The two stand out well in this monotone image .
Wonderfully clear capture - and the b&w also draws your attention to the markings on the face and ears of the right hand lioness - I feel your might not notice that if it was in colour....
Maybe I should have fed Tater and Scooter a little zebra tonight. They weren't all that thrilled with Salmon in gravy. I love this image of nature at work. The zebra probably wasn't too thrilled about it though.
Good choice to go for b&w. I agree that the scenes of lions tearing flesh are
not for the fainthearted. I remember being grossed out the first time we saw this on safari.
