This is one of architect Helmut Jahn's early designs. It had mixed reviews from the start as it's a really weird looking place and it apparently the infrastructure is not holding up well. Every few months to year an article comes out laying out the debate between preserving Jahn's work or demolishing it and starting over. I try to photograph there at least once a year in case it's its last. This time I focused on the sculpture in the lobby called Bridgeport by sculptor John Henry.
For fun, here's a shot from 2015 showing how weird the overall interior is: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2015-10-16
That is one extraordinary sculpture, I do hope it survives any re-modelling or worse. The lines are very powerful and particularly so against the regular shapes of the roof panes.
I love the way you've processed this. It's a great shot, and very interesting to see it in conjunction with your previous shot in 2015. I think we need an annual update!
OMG I love the Thomson Building and have so many incredible images of it! How awful if they have to take it down! Shocking! I love your b&w image of the sculpture- such strong lines! I hope I can visit again and see this building before they do something to it!
This doesn't seem like it even belongs with the other shot! They looks like two different buildings. It's a great subject for black and white. And also a good thing you're documenting it. It's hard to say for sure, but Progress usually wins out on these things. Good shot.
Whoop, whoop...warning, warning -- lines approaching the limit of human perception.
Amazing. Super capture. Keep photographing. I'd hate to think the building might go away.
