Moon Watching, Moon Moving by taffy

Moon Watching, Moon Moving

Not a composite but I had to move the moon. It was rising and on track to hang above the 'engagement ring building,' the image you see here. So, I set up my tripod, changed to my 150-600mm lens, tested settings, and was ready to snap at the perfect moment. At 10:55 it was to the left and a little lower but getting close. I took another test shot a few minutes later and weirdly, the building was no longer showing up. Turns out, they turned off the lights at 11:00! The moon was centered shortly after. So, for this shot, taken a little earlier, I moved the moon over (in PS) so that it was where it would have been if the lights hadn't gone out.
Great composition.

April 11th, 2020
This is fabulous Taffy! I am laughing at the thought of them turning the lights off just as you were taking your shot! Well done on moving the moon over just a little - we would never had known.

April 11th, 2020
Nice PS work! That moon looks as if it is going to fall right into the building.
April 11th, 2020
Perfect! Fav!
April 11th, 2020
Moving the moon is perfectly valid if the building won't co-operate. Great image too! I don't attempt moon shots, don't have a long lens.
April 11th, 2020
Fantastic work - you can beat the energy saving folks there at this. Who'd think they'd turn out the lights at that hour! Great job.
April 11th, 2020
Wonderful shot, how amazing you can just move the moon!
April 11th, 2020
Cool shot! Thanks for telling the story too!

Oh, the best laid plans!!!!! Anyway, poetic licence here has worked fabulously. great image. We didn't even get to see it - too much cloud.
April 11th, 2020
@redy4et I love how you've worded this! A lot of power, definitely!
April 11th, 2020
@golftragic Easier than moving the building!
April 11th, 2020
Great choice, it must have been disappointing, seeing the outcome in your mind and find the light switched off!
April 11th, 2020
@louannwarren Here's a little info about the building -- it's one of my favorites in the city. https://www.vamonde.com/posts/311-south-wacker-drive/4039

@Weezilou Thanks, we feel very lucky especially given that we are home for the long term!
April 11th, 2020
If you hadn't told us you had moved it, it looks like was naturally there, perfectly lined up!
April 11th, 2020
@taffy Pam @pamknowler is going through what you went through before settling there. Timing is so critical! I think everyone loves seeing your views!
April 11th, 2020

April 11th, 2020
it's all going on in lockdown, even moon-moving. wonderful image taffy :)
April 11th, 2020
@taffy thank you for the link. What an extraordinary building, it’s 30 years old this year. A two story winter garden in the interior, oh my!

Excellent!

Beautiful capture
April 11th, 2020
Fantastic!
April 11th, 2020
Fabulous image Taffy. If you hadn't "fessed up" to moving the moon I certainly wouldn't have known. What a pain that the lights went out when they did.
April 11th, 2020
this is quite magical!

April 11th, 2020
This is spectacular!
April 11th, 2020
Lol, just one of those little things you encounter when making a photo :) I'm always surprised by how fast the moon is moving
April 11th, 2020
Stunning combination! Fave.
April 11th, 2020
Get everything set up so perfect and rather than Nature causing a problem, it's a man made one! Go figure! Well, good job in making it what it was supposed to be! fav
April 11th, 2020
Beautiful both photo and the photographer's experience :)

@taffy wow Taffy number one on TT! So pleased to see it there! Xx
April 17th, 2020
Some how missed this! It's a great shot and congratulations on No1 in the TT!

I missed this one too! Absolutely outstanding.
April 17th, 2020
Beautiful nighttime capture! Congratulations on the top spot in the TT, Taffy!
April 17th, 2020
Yay, TTT! Congrats!
April 17th, 2020
@jyokota @gardenfolk @featherstone26 @rjb71 @pamknowler Thank you all for letting me know. This was such great news to see today (especially after finding out from the doctor this morning that it's 99% likely that when I fell, I actually fractured my hip!). So it was great having this bright spot!
April 18th, 2020
Oh no...I am so sorry!!! Will it heal on its own or will you need surgery? I hear hip surgery is easier than knee surgery...but still no fun, especially with the virus!
April 18th, 2020
@gardenfolk Surgery is, I hope, not on the table. I have four more weeks of keeping weight off of my right leg/hip and then hopefully it will be safe to go for an Xray or MRI. It really threw me as I was expecting to talk about a PT and exercise recovery strategy.
April 18th, 2020
@taffy oh no Taffy what a shock for you! No wonder you have been in such pain with it. Hopefully it will improve so that you don’t have to go to hospital- not a place to visit at the moment! Take care and feel better soon! Big hug xx
April 18th, 2020
@pamknowler Thanks for the kind words, Pam! Yeah, total shock. But no hospital visits planned in the near future -- at least not til totally safe again!
April 18th, 2020
So delighted to see this as number 1 but horrified to hear re your hip. How miserable. So sorry
April 18th, 2020
Glad you are staying away from the hospital though
April 18th, 2020
Oh yes - wonderful. I love how you managed the disappearance of the building. :)
April 18th, 2020
Congratulations on TT!
