Hummers here are so territorial that I think they spend energy chasing each other away when there is plenty for them to share. These two, however, looked to be having an intense negotiation.
Information update re yesterday's weird caterpillar -- it's a white-marked tussock moth -- I added that info to yesterday's commentary along with a link for anyone interested. Loved your comments about the stranger creature!
I have a bumper crop of Hummers coming to my feeder this year- 3 females and 1 male (could be others but haven't seen more than one at a time like I've seen the females) and my goodness are they feisty! And yes, I do think they spend more time chasing each other away than they do feeding! Great shot!
I have 2 feeders up and you would think they could share - no way - we just fuss over the one. It seems just for the fun of it! Nice shot here of them checking each other out
It is weird that I see photos of many hummers at the same feeder sometimes, but certainly the ones at our feeders are very territorial and there's never more than one at a time.
Great shot! Ours fight all the time. We have one small one (We call him Napolean) who sits on top of the feeder and chases off anyone who tries to come in.
