This yellow crowned night heron was hiding high up in the branches, standing proud but fairly still (so cooperative for us photographers). I like how the yellow crown looks like the leaves behind him. He lives among the black crowned night herons that appeared in my album a few weeks ago so it was exciting to spot him. There's a colony in the Lincoln Park Zoo but no netting or fences, so the birds have chosen to live there.
@falcon11 I wonder if it’s mating plumage or just the way the light was coming through the trees. Though the yellow crown is quite yellow in all the photos.
