Snake: Get Off My Favorite Path by taffy

Snake: Get Off My Favorite Path

Taking a walk before Junko and Bill head home (sad), we came across this snake. Seemed annoyed with us for being on its path (what we refer to as 'our road'). Stayed and posed (or confronted us while we took photos) til he flipped in the air and slithered away. Junko took a much more scary photo with its tongue out at us (I tried, but my tongue-out one came out blurred) -- see hers at: http://365project.org/jyokota/omake/2014-08-14
Such a dramatic position that snake is making! I think this is a cool perspective to show the snake's body . . .

Not a fan of any kind of snake, so I think I'd give way to him! Nice details, though!
August 14th, 2014
Nice capture of a not so nice subject!
August 14th, 2014
Sweet!

Great capture. Fav
August 14th, 2014
scary
August 14th, 2014
He looks poised to strike! I hope your zoom was so good you were at least 10 feet away from him! Great focus on his head. What sort of snake is it?
August 14th, 2014
very cool shot. really caught my eye. nice curves and dof
August 14th, 2014
great image - you've got a great pov there
August 14th, 2014
Neat but scary snake. You are brave.
August 14th, 2014
Very cool shot but would have so freaked out!!

Nice POV! :-)
August 14th, 2014

August 14th, 2014
Great dof
August 14th, 2014
Beautiful DoF
August 14th, 2014
Great detail
August 14th, 2014
Great closeup, but it is his path, see my comment on Junko's post.
August 14th, 2014
Great pov, composition, close up and focusing. I like the way its body curves through the shot and the dof works really well too. Great catchlights in its eyes. I'm expecting it to strike out through the shot! Fab. work. Fav.
August 14th, 2014
Love the focus and dof!
August 14th, 2014
Awesome shot
August 14th, 2014
Brilliant dof field and great that you have captured his curved shape. Snakes give me the creeps and this one looks very aggressive. I know he is not poisonous BUT I would be shreaking like a banshee if I saw one come out on the road in front of me!! Great capture Taffy - you are very brave!! Fav!!

Tom
Great shot

Perhaps I should not be surprised that so many people responded in the negative about snakes, but this is a beautiful photo and he's so little... I'd have been down photographing him also...as I did some time ago of the only one I've ever seen up here in over 12 years!
August 14th, 2014
Super shot - lovely detail , texture and pattern on the skin --but he does look annoyed with you !!
August 14th, 2014
@maggiemae It's just a common garden snake -- totally harmless and quite common. I was using a 105, so we were both pretty close -- a few feet away, but truly, it was more scared of us than vice versa.
August 14th, 2014
Fabulous shot! Yeah, I still wouldn't care if it was harmless - I wouldn't get that close lol.
August 14th, 2014
Great focus and DOF, really nice shot
August 14th, 2014
Great shot. Terrifying, though, because he looks like he's about to strike!
August 14th, 2014
How nice of him to pose for you. Very nice dof
August 14th, 2014
Great shot but I am so pleased we do not have snakes in NZ..
August 14th, 2014
Great shot!
August 14th, 2014
Nice one!
August 14th, 2014
I'm glad he's harmless. I would have run screaming as i have never seen a snake in the 'wild' there are no snakes in Ireland; apparently St Patrick chased them all into the sea!
August 14th, 2014
Great shot.
August 14th, 2014
Great POV, he does look hissing mad :-)
August 14th, 2014
Great capture.
August 15th, 2014
He wins!
August 15th, 2014
Not overly fond of snakes. But great capture.
August 15th, 2014
Great shot. Looks like he has his cheeks puffed to look big.
August 15th, 2014
Amazing detail here...probably too much detail for me
August 15th, 2014
Great shot! I would have ran!
August 15th, 2014
Great shot, love the focus on the head. I've never seen a snake like this so was interested to know what sort it was.
August 15th, 2014
Yikes. Great capture, but I would probably have run screaming down the road in the opposite direction.
August 15th, 2014
Great capture, very effective with the shallow DOF and great placement in the frame.
August 15th, 2014
Fantastic capture of him.
August 15th, 2014
Wow spectacular capture!!
August 15th, 2014
Fantastic detail
August 15th, 2014
Great dof
August 15th, 2014
Fantastic capture.
August 15th, 2014
Snakes. Ugh. I find them very intriguing, honestly, but only after I've adjusted to the surprise of discovering one at my feet. They never fail to make me flinch just a little tho. Excellent picture of this one.
August 15th, 2014
@skstein Normally I would, anywhere but here. It makes a difference knowing that none of these are dangerous to humans.
August 16th, 2014
Fabulous capture Taffy I love how it is rearing up, great focus, detail and DoF!
August 16th, 2014
