Taking a walk before Junko and Bill head home (sad), we came across this snake. Seemed annoyed with us for being on its path (what we refer to as 'our road'). Stayed and posed (or confronted us while we took photos) til he flipped in the air and slithered away. Junko took a much more scary photo with its tongue out at us (I tried, but my tongue-out one came out blurred) -- see hers at: http://365project.org/jyokota/omake/2014-08-14
Great pov, composition, close up and focusing. I like the way its body curves through the shot and the dof works really well too. Great catchlights in its eyes. I'm expecting it to strike out through the shot! Fab. work. Fav.
Brilliant dof field and great that you have captured his curved shape. Snakes give me the creeps and this one looks very aggressive. I know he is not poisonous BUT I would be shreaking like a banshee if I saw one come out on the road in front of me!! Great capture Taffy - you are very brave!! Fav!!
Perhaps I should not be surprised that so many people responded in the negative about snakes, but this is a beautiful photo and he's so little... I'd have been down photographing him also...as I did some time ago of the only one I've ever seen up here in over 12 years!
@maggiemae It's just a common garden snake -- totally harmless and quite common. I was using a 105, so we were both pretty close -- a few feet away, but truly, it was more scared of us than vice versa.
I'm glad he's harmless. I would have run screaming as i have never seen a snake in the 'wild' there are no snakes in Ireland; apparently St Patrick chased them all into the sea!
Snakes. Ugh. I find them very intriguing, honestly, but only after I've adjusted to the surprise of discovering one at my feet. They never fail to make me flinch just a little tho. Excellent picture of this one.
