Remembering Better Days by taffy

Remembering Better Days

I saw the new EOTB challenge posted as starting today. The timing was perfect as several days ago, I'd asked a friend who lives on Donegal Bay if she would take our grandkids, their parents, and us to Sweeny's Swamp, an area I know she hikes in with her clowny Portugese water dog, Molly. It's known for, obviously, the bog and swamp area, plus some huge fields, wildflowers, old oak and other trees. But it's also adjacent to property owned by a long-time resident who I won't name who uses the area as a junkyard. Because of some ordinances, and I suspect some pressure from other island families, it's not as bad as it once was, but there are interesting objects throughout. Today we saw: many old cars and trucks, two propane tank shells, a brick chimney, boats, rusted farm equipment, and other undefinable things. I've shared the beauty of the island. I thought, since I only have 3 more days, I should share the darker side.
Update 2015 - same site, almost 2 years later: http://365project.org/taffy/365/2015-08-12
As I said in my main album comment, thank you all for your understanding and empathy in response to my self-imposed 365 diet that started yesterday. Two days now of working all day and not going onto the site (okay, cheated a few times today, but not for long), has already made a big dent in meeting some deadlines. I'm still viewing and posting about the same amount, but have cut back substantially on individually responses to your comments and to being able to comment on all that I view. I know many of us are in this position now that the summer is coming to a close (anyway, those of us in the northern hemisphere) -- we'll just keep posting and doing the best we can on the comments!
this is a cool shot and a cool truck

Interesting find, those old trucks just there forgotten like that. Yes I think the response comments are the ones to be cut first, I have been meaning to end those but somehow I still seam to do it anyway, it's not easy to pick up new habbits.

If it's on his/her property there's not much you can do about it- we live across from a small version of "red neck heaven" but thankfully our neighbor is mindful of the fact that not everyone is a motorhead. He very nicely keeps it to a minimum. I think my grandsons (and even one of my sons!) would love these old trucks.

There is always someone who wants to spoil nature's beauty! It does make a good photo though but it just makes me ask why? We have a couple of farms nearby and the farmer just leaves old equipment out to rot. It's a real eyesore in the beautiful countryside. I do like your shot Taffy - lovely colours and textures!

I hear you !!--most of the time to be honest -I skipped my dinner and go to bed till 2 or 3 am just to catch up here.i really don't know why am I doing this to myself-it's not healthy for me since I've a tummy issues ..I might cut down my 24/7 365 addictions-and start doing my other stuff like "life"..hA !:)maybe anytime soon.i miss a lot of books to read,my magazine subscriptions are filing up,music and movies to hear and watch,my part-time clerical job and not to mentioned my spiritual duties--so,youre right,Taffy-i think I have to start my 365 diet too:)

@jodimuli Ah, but your shots are so spectacular, day in and day out. I don't know how you do it (or, now I do!!). But, today I realized after three strict-ish days on my 'diet' that it doesn't have to be all or nothing. I think there's a way to do this without being so obsessed about it, which I think I was in hindsight. Sort of like an addiction. I think the trick is to get it in balance and under control. I missed it too much to stay on a very very strict diet. But, I think that checking in a little during the day, making some comments in the morning while eating b'fast, and then dong a posting and more commenting at night could work. Another side is I realized I need to drastically reduce my photo-taking and processing. Over the summer, I ended up taking a lot of photos, doing maybe 3 or 4 photo walks a day, and then processing tons of photos before choosing one. I'm going to let that go for sure! One photo session a day, a few photos to process, and if I don't have a good one, oh well! Long answer -- I am using this to sort out my own thinking, so thank you Joey and good luck to you too!! I hope you get to read a book again soon!!

love the rustic textures and colors. Great composition. i'm with you on trying to find the balance. it's hard to not be all or nothing. Balance is key and i'm trying to figure it out.

Taffy , I love this capture and was glad to look back and see the difference in the decay. I agree you need to cut back on individual responses and shooting sessions. That will eas up your time a little. This site can be so addictive and time consuming. I cut individual responses and used the time to view and comment on other posts. Then I started following more people and I am right back into time consumption. ;-)
