This is my final get-pushed attempt/entry, challenged by Maddie B @ryanarra2 to create an image using monochrome, but not b&w. This clock tower is about a mile from our house. I used my 70-300mm zoom at full zoom, on my D90 so it acted more like a 420mm. I took three images and used HDR to sharpen the image because individually for the clock face to show, the rest was to dark. If the rest showed, the clock face was blown out. I then did a little edit in Color Efex to tone down the HDR-ish-ness and bring out the golden tones from the lighting. Thanks Maddie -- I've had fun with this challenge!
Gosh Taffy I admire you so much when you have such a busy work schedule yet yo do all this different challenges too. this should definitely be viewed on large as you said, the tones are great in this, so warm.
@elaine55 And what does it say about me that I didn't even notice them?? Thanks so much for your comment, too. I feel like photography has been my link to sanity this year. It's been such a strange one from when I started and was so homebound because of Nutmeg, and then now when I'm catching up from what feels like almost a year of being behind and focused on her. Taking a picture and processing it has become such an important routine for me -- I've just had to allow myself to 'do something with photography' each day and not hold myself fanatically to take-download-process-post the same photo all on the same day. Talk about rambling...
Thanks for explaining what you did. This is great. I have to try HDR. I know it's common to use, but I generally don't like the effect it makes. It definitely works here.
@vankrey I agree about the trickiness of HDR and am determined I'm going to learn to use it well. I like what it does when it works but know that overprocessing can be really risky.
