Almond Milk and Food Color Crown by taffy

Almond Milk and Food Color Crown

My get pushed challenger, @darylo, asked me to tackle one of three items on my photo bucket list. Creating a crown from a liquid drop was high on the list so I tackled it tonight. Arefin ( @wind_of_the_sothern_sea) posted a brilliant shot yesterday of a crown in a coffee cup ( http://365project.org/wind_of_the_sothern_sea/365/2013-12-09) and said it took him about a dozen tries. I knew it would take me more, but hadn't expected the 150 attempts to come up with one mediocre (but identifiable) crown. SOOO much harder than it looks, but then I did it all by hand as I don't have any kind of setup for the dropper that is shown in many tutorials, nor do I know how to set up the flash externally the way they show it.
One of the tutorials said almond milk was easier than water because of its viscosity. We had some in the pantry -- no idea why -- so I figured I'd put it to good use.
It was actually kind of fun, so I'm going to try it again -- thanks for the push Daryl!
Love the angle and the colour. Water crowns are not very easy at all.

@darylo First attempt! Clearly a start only -- I have a lot to improve on, but thanks of the push as at least I'm not afraid to try it anymore! Next try is with water and food coloring.

I've never tried this but would like to sometime. Your result does look like a crown--in strawberry colored milk.

This is fantastic. When I tried it took me over 100 attempts as well. Need to go back and try again
December 11th, 2013
Good for you! I don't have the patience for this - tried once and after close to 200 tries, gave up.
December 11th, 2013
That's a great shot. It's definitely not as easy as people make it sound that's for sure. Very well done :)

Kim
Perfect! You did make it look easy - thanks for letting us know that it wasn't. Pretty color.
December 11th, 2013
Very pretty with the pink effect!! and its very hard indeed, should give it a try again myself!!
December 11th, 2013
Had to fav! Great response to the push! I watched a video yesterday and I've decided I must try this before the end of the year. I'm going to put it off until I have turned in grades, and I'm on the search for a contraption to rig the drop (which apparently will really make the process so much easier). Nicely done Taffy!!!
December 11th, 2013
This is very good Taffy. I have not the patience for this type of shot, which is one reason, (along with selfies )why I steer clear of get pushed!!
December 11th, 2013
Yay!!! You did it!! I tried this last week but your's turned out superb!
December 11th, 2013
Fab, must learn how to do these, they are so intriguing. Love the colour.
December 11th, 2013
Great capture, will have to try to do something like this before the end of my project.
December 11th, 2013
Congrats on this great crown. Beautiful!
December 11th, 2013
beautiful crown, great colour
December 12th, 2013
Definitely a great crown and neat color!
December 12th, 2013
Wonderful crown Taffy! I have tried this and failed. I must see if I can master at least one crown before I complete my 365!
December 12th, 2013
Well done, great grown. I still have this subject to do....or how I admire everyone who succeeds in this subject.

@susale @pamknowler @leonbuys83 @pennyp @annied Thanks for your visit and kind comment about my crown. I've seen so many wonderfully interesting ones, but admit I was SO glad I was able to get one shot from the hundred or so I took. It was satisfying, and in a way, I have to say it was more fun than I thought it would be.
@seanoneill Sean, you are so right about hating selfies but really, I've just told get-pushed partners there is a reason they don't see them in my album!! But this thing -- the crown -- was fun to do and I know I wouldn't have tried it without Daryl's push. That's why I like doing those.
December 12th, 2013
Fantastic!!!
December 12th, 2013
Considering you did all this "manually" I think you did a great job! I would not have the patience for it.
