Snow Can't Stop Me! by taffy

Snow Can't Stop Me!

I was surprised to see a pair of seagulls flying around in the cold snowy weather. I grabbed my camera and went out on the deck to try to capture it, pleased that my zoom was already attached from my moon shots last night. Unfortunately, I forgot about the slower shutter speed. This was the best of the bunch which were all pretty blurry. I liked the angle flying toward me and, it felt like, looking straight at my camera. Processed in silver efex for a high key effect.

Fabulous pov and white tones! Two giant blue herons were 40 feet from my window today chasing each other in circles. By the time I grabbed the camera they were gone, unfortunately!

@kwind I can so relate! By the time I figured out the setting problem, I saw they came back, grabbed the camera and went out to do it right and they never showed up again! Thanks for the view and nice comment!

nice. like the brightness

Love the white on white, it's almost got a snowy owl look to the face, which I know is ridiculous for a gull, but I still see it :)

So beautiful!

Incredible capture of the expression on his face! I agree with Donna on the snowy owl look, which I thought I was looking at in the small size. Beautiful brilliant whiteness...too cool!

@rill Interesting you'd say that, Donna. When I showed it to Jim tonite, he looked at it and said the exact same thing!

Some magical creature comes to mind, you have managed to create something very beautiful and unique out of something so ordinarily as seagull

Seagull. Chicago. Snow? What a combination! Fabulous capture!

I like the blur- it gives me the sense he's coming right at you. And I like the high key too. I fav'd it!
January 17th, 2014
The overall effect is great - the high key, the blur and the inclination of the head, looking at you, make the shot.

Really like the high key and the bit of blur on the wings - the wrong settings has really been a good thing.
January 17th, 2014
Great white on white, good use of negative space
January 17th, 2014
I like the high key effect here. I'm always forgetting about the effect of too slow a shutter speed. Glad I'm not the only one!

I really have trouble making high key B&W work, but you do it well. Good catch.
