Portrait of an Emu by taffy

Portrait of an Emu

This Emu lives outside Adelaide in a national park. Quite proud, despite her less than conventional looks, she walked across the field like a model on the runway, then posed for me, moving her head every which way. I couldn't choose a favorite (well, sort of gave my sort of favorite the place of honor in the lower right corner). She was very expressive and I felt like her show was just for the camera's benefit.
great collage. they look a bit pre-historic!

I love emu's. They are so fascinating though have not seen the face this close up before. Love your photos, Taffy I also like that you put so many closeups around the main photo.

A super well presented collage -- such a proud looking bird --but his head is not his best bit !!!

Sure looks like it is strutting! Cool creature....I wonder if they make anything with its feathers....it has a lovely coat!

Wonderful presentation! As you know I love closeups of birds - of any size! These shots are all wonderful! Great captures!

They do have rather bizarre expressions. Emus are a smaller than our ostriches but they have many habits that are similar.

Fantastic collage, she really is strutting her stuff. You did so well for her not to make a grab for your camera, they can be so quick sometimes.

Lovely collage - what a co-operative model

How nice of her to strut for you, they are all great shots. Was there any special reason why all her head feathers were plucked?
October 31st, 2014
@ladygator I don't know -- all the emus looked like that, so I had thought it was just the way their feathers grew around their faces.

You've caught the strut superbly!

You captured her beautifully Taffy. Love how you described the walk, that is a perfect description.

Emus have the funniest expressions! I like how you captured such a great walking pose, and surrounded it with the "many faces of" . . .

What an amusing collage about a very intriguing bird. I like the variety of head shots, especially the two that show the difference in the eye when the 2nd lid is down. Without that, her eyes are vivid and intense.

She definitely looks as though she was posing. Great collage
