I found it interesting that after all the named buildings in DC, the military headquarters of fame, the Pentagon, is named for its shape. Taken from the air (obviously) as we were leaving, you can see how the Pentagon lies next to Arlington Cemetery (the dots are crosses in the 'park' on the upper right). Just above it in the photo is the Air Force Memorial, mirroring the way three jets flying in formation would peel off in three directions. I look forward to going back -- D.C. is a photographers paradise and a treasure trove of interesting places to visit.
Wow, great detail. My oldest son lives out there, and is moving west this summer. I think he will need his mother to help him clean/pack! Or maybe to just sip on a glass of wine and give me instructions.
Such an impressive compound and a wonderful photo - great composition with the pentagon flanked by park on one side, that incredible set of freeways on the other and the memorial above it! You are incredible to be able to produce this from a plane window! :)
Great shot Taffy, the architecture of this building has long fascinated me, not in the technical sense, but in the whole concept of a pentagonal structure with internal courtyard.
If you can believe wikipedia, it's pentagon shaped because the original intended site was an irregular pentagon. Second choice for site allowed for a regular pentagon. Either way, nice photo.
Not only is it 5 sided, but it has 5 rings of offices inside, so it's like five buildings in one. If you look at the right side, you can kind of see the 5 rings.
