I saw these sandals while waiting for a family to show up for their son's senior portrait photo shoot on this bay. They were late so I had plenty of time to photograph the sandals as different 'stories' occurred to me. I ended up not being able to decide between these two so thought I"d post both, as it is interesting to me to see what changing color/b&w, DoF, and breadth of the scene does to change what the story might be. The b&w closeup version is here: https://365project.org/taffy/365/2020-07-27
Thank you for your encouraging comments on the milky way shot I posted yesterday. I think I'll do more of these while I have the chance to live in a dark sky environment! It feels very special to have that access these days.
I like both versions but this one tells the story. I hope they returned to collect their sandals. You wouldn't believe how many people leave sandshoes and sandals on the beach here.
I think the sandals get lost in this shot. The color is what catches your eye- the water and the grass but not the shoes. To me they both tell the same story but the black and white is stronger because the sandals are the focus of the shot. In this one, I think it's more the environment than the sandals. At least that's my humble opinion!
