I was experimenting with astrophotography. Serious astronomy photographers would have a motor drive to follow the stars as the earth moves. I tried an more tedious technique that doesn't require any special equipment. I took six 5-second exposures at F4 and ISO400 aligned and combined them in software. I wasn't trying to capture any particular stars. I was just trying out a technique.
This was not a particularly dark spot. I just set up the camera on my back porch. I could only see two or three stars with my unaided eyes. The integration of the multiple images bring out some rather dim stars. Even a single 5-second exposure brings otherwise invisible stars into view.
I might try this again with some light painting on the trees in one of the frames. That will give this some foreground interest and the trees will be in focus in one frame.
