Lorikeets in London? by terryliv

Lorikeets in London?

I could hardly believe my eyes when I first saw a wild lorikeet in Walpole Park in Ealing about 10 years ago. But Sonia now has quite a few that visit her feeders and the trees in her back yard every day and they behave just the same as our lorikeets back home. They seem so out of place.

Exactly how these Rose Ringed Parakeets that are native to Africa and India came to be in west London is a bit of a mystery but one of the more fanciful stories is that they escaped from Ealing Studios during the filming of The African Queen.
They have probably followed you knowing what a great café you run from home in Oz.

Oh The African Queen! What a great movie! They are gorgeous birds. You would think London in the winter would be too cold. This is a great photo of this fellow!
