Red Collared Lorikeets by terryliv

Red Collared Lorikeets

Day 19 - Batchelor

No. These are not Rainbow Lorikeets but their very close relative from the north, the Red Collared Lorikeet.

When you first see them you think "bloody Rainbow Lorikeets" but something doesn't look quite right and then you realise that their markings are a bit different to the Rainbows - in particular, the red over the back of the neck.

Apart from the colourings though, they behave exactly the same as Rainbows ie they are extroverted, noisy, aggressive, squabbling, bullying, inquisitive, active, etc etc etc

The owner of the caravan park we stayed at in Batchelor fed them every evening and they put on quite a show.
