The kookaburra was down for a feed today and another of our visitors can be ticked off. I am pretty sure this is the young bird I photographed a few months ago.
I took quite a few shots of him flying up and down to his tree but while I got a lot of laughs from my attempts, the pics were a long way from being 365 worthy. SOOC - no crop
Cool Kookaburra! I had always wanted to say that. In fact I had heard of this bird with the strange name, but had never seen a photo. You just filled one of the buckets on my list!
They have such an unusual shaped bill. I wonder if there's something different in their diet that calls for that unique decision. Any ideas from the Bird Man?
They do catch and kill small snakes and lizards by belting them on a branch etc so it may have something to do with that ie need a big strong bill. To be honest, I have never noticed it before. Maybe because we grew up with them around.
