The Castle by terryliv

The Castle

Came across this "house" while driving around a few days ago. Quickly grabbed a couple of photos before a guy appeared at the front door yelling to/at me at which point I casually moved on.
Around the corner was a beautiful Magnolia in someone's yard and I stopped to get some pics. Got to talking to the owner (of the magnolia) and he told me that the "house" belongs to an Italian who migrated to Oz about 30 years ago with his wife. After his arrival he declared he was going to build a "castle for his queen' ie his wife and so he set about doing just that. He must have started in 1990 (just to the left of the clock) and obviously planned to have it finished by 2020 (to the right of the clock.
The whole scheme went pear shaped when his queen up and left him at which point, he lost interest (don't blame him).
As Dale Kerrigan would have said "Tell 'im he's dreamin." Sorry O/S 365ers, you wont get that one but I am sure all the Aussies will.
Great colour scheme. Looks good on black
Great shot! I imagine it's going straight to your pool room.

A gorgeous fairy-tale building

Us kiwis love the Kerrigans as well. ;-)

Haha, wow what a monstrosity. It certainly would catch the eye. And on another note, the house used in "The Castle" is only 10 minutes from my house. And backs off the relatively small Essendon airport, not the Tullamarine airport as depicted in the movie. I'm full of facts this week haha.

Ha ha, What's Italian for Kerrigan. Or maybe that should be Castello.

Sam
Oh dear. There is no accounting for taste, including pink cement fences!

We should have a weekly theme on residences that are unusual. I think every town and city has them. Most people who own them would be delighted to have you take a picture of them. If my dh had built this place I might have left him.

Just a little over the top. There have been a number of these outrageous Mediterranean structures built in many places. Prime example

beautiful building!

Lovely building, but hate the colour...wonder why the wife left him.

@leestevo She wanted an orange fence?

Mmmm, rather guarish piece of architecture, I reckon I would fly the coop if Hubby started to build one of these for me :)

How sad for that poor fellow. What a great job he's done and really, if he's going to build something like that he must expect people to stop and take photos! Not my kind of house at all but I can see how much work has gone into it.

He should finish it and then perhaps some lady that's long to be a queen would pursue moving in.

Very stately

A modern day Don Quixote! Yet another delightful Australian expression: the whole thing went pear shaped!

Great capture.

Well spotted Terry beautiful capture, I would still complete the building, who knows a passing princess by be bowled over by his handy work:)

Interesting story, love the building!

What a beautiful building, and great story and glad you got a few shots in before he Shooed you away.

Its almost like a wedding cake!! Is it Portuguese Style?

This most definitely has to be one-of-a-kind. When it first opened, I'm thinking "Is that pink?" - Guess it is! Don't think there's much room for more architectural detail here. Great shot of this wonder.
January 25th, 2015
Wow, this is really not a pretty house. His own private castle.
January 26th, 2015
I think I know why she left. He probably thought you were paparazzi (that's Italian, isn't it?) How do you build something like that and not expect people to want to photograph it?
January 26th, 2015
Very cool building!
January 26th, 2015
Guess he's not my knight in shining armour either :)
January 26th, 2015
Just goes to show you can have money but it doesn't mean you have good taste!! It looks like a cake - not surprised she left him!!
January 26th, 2015
@stray_shooter @joansmor I did say he was yelling at/to me. For all I know, he may have been inviting me in for a cuppa (did you like that Ron?). On the other hand, he may have been telling me to sod off.
