The Surf Was Pumping

A big low off the coast and a forecast of big swells on the Gold Coast so we headed down to our favourite break at Snapper Rocks.
Not as big as when we went down last year but still plenty of action.
Thought I would start off with one of the young girls who was out mixing it with the guys. She was bloody good - her surfing wasn't bad either (sorry, I couldn't help myself.)
I did feel very inadequate out on the rocks amongst all the guys with their BIG Canon lenses and my scungy little 75-300mm plastic zoom. One of these days . . . . . .

STOP PRESS!!! STOP PRESS!!! I have just had a phone call from my son. Seems like I managed to get a shot of Stephanie Gilmore!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!! And I said "she was mixing it with the guys"? and "her surfing wasn't bad'? Talk about eating humble pie. The penny should have dropped with the sponsors names on the board. Of course, Snapper Rocks is her home break.
For those of you not familiar with surfing, Stephanie Gilmore was world ladies surfing champion in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2014. I am completely gobschmacked. The best photo I have ever taken :-)

Fantastic shot. The surf looks amazing. Apparently it will be a little bigger tomorrow. And remember, it's not always the equipment you have. It's what you do with it that counts.
