Early this morning (Wed 12th) Rhoda and I will be heading to Alice Springs where we will begin a 15 day camping tour of Central Australia.
The tour starts and ends in Alice Springs and takes in three of Australia's best known desert tracks: the Strzelecki Track, the Oodnadatta Track and the Birdsville Track. Accommodation will be in two man tents - 4 pegs in the ground and a pole up the centre (ya gotta love the Poles).
From the time we leave Alice Springs, there will be no internet, no mobile phone and in most cases, no power, Consequently, we will be completely away from 365 until we return home about midnight on Fri 28th.
Have fun and I will try to bring back some decent pics of Central Australia.
Oh wow! What a trip you've set out on. Wishing you and Rhoda a fantastic time. Looking forward to the pics you're going to bring back and share with us.
I know you're back. Hope the trip was great. How do you find these amazing tours. This covers such interesting country. Now when my Internet picks up speed again withthe new month I'll be able to watch your journey unfold. Can't wait
@ubobohobo Hi Margaret, This tour was with OzTours. See http://www.oztours.com.au/central_australia.html
We did the tour to Cape York with them back in 2006 and it was terrific. As far as I am aware, they are the only ones who do a Central Oz tour.
The two tour leaders are looking to retire in the next couple of years and I suspect they will no longer be able to offer this tour when they go.
That looks like an exciting trip. We were fortunately to visit Alice Springs about a decade or more ago and then go out to Ayers Rock (its name back then). I was truck by the amazing sense of isolation from the rest of the country.
