Shingleback by terryliv

Shingleback

Heading back to Marree from Lake Eyre when John (tour leader) suddenly hit the skids and the bus slid to a stop. Quite a common occurrence during the tour.

The reason this time was this Shingleback lizard on the edge of the road. Isn't he a beauty?

This fellow was about 300mm long - they can grow to about 400mm. I have seen them in captivity before but this is the first time I have seen one in the wild.

Wow, that is amazing, what a great find and capture. He has a very short tail for a lizard

Why did the driver stop. Are they protected, can they cause damage to tires or was it just a photo opp stop? Neat capture and great photo!

@janiskay No it was for the photo op. John was also a wildlife photographer so he was as keen as us to take the shots.

Great shot of him. His pattern reminds me of a pine cone.
