Golden Headed Cisticola 1

This little fellow is probably the smallest bird I have ever seen.

When I first noticed it, I thought it was a (very fast) butterfly flitting around. From end of tail to beak he is only about 100mm (4") long. That is a grass stem he is sitting on.

Amazingly, his conservation status is "Secure" despite the obvious loss of habitat and the threat from a multitude of predators including Magpies, Butcher Birds, Kurrawongs and Kookaburras as well of course from cats and probably just about every other meat eater around.

The shot was taken in a nature walk, Oxley Creek Common that I had never heard of until recently. When I looked up where it was, I found out that not only was it not far from our place, but we drive past it on a very regular basis. Crazy!!

Had to send the pic off to the "Friends of Oxley Creek Common" to get it identified.

BTW, I love my Tamron 70-300mm :-)
He's beautiful! He looks so delicate it's crazy! Beautiful shot of him too!

Hi Jane. There were a few of them there and they were in the company of a couple of wren species that I will post later.
