Refugee

One of the refugees from the tree lopping exercise was this stick insect which we managed to rescue and relocate in one of the palms. The only problem then was keeping the butcher birds away from him until he found a place to "hide"
He was about 25cm long which is not bad but we have had some quite a bit longer.

So well disguised! I'm not even sure I have spotted him!

They do grow quite large. I hope the rescue wasn't in vane, and it didn't get eaton.

Incredible insect you have here. I've not seen one like this before. Ours here in the states look slightly different, perhaps to match the difference of the trees on various continents?? Beautiful picture with the soft colorful background and the tack-sharp focus on the insect. Fav.
