Sturt's Desert pea by terryliv

Sturt's Desert pea

Meanwhile, back in central Oz.

We were trundling along the Oodnadatta track when John (driver) did his normal trick of suddenly hitting the skids and coming to a halt before backing up along the track.

This time it was a small clump of Sturt's Desert Pea that he had spotted growing just off the side of the road. The bush was only about 15cm high.

We had seen quite a few of these growing in gardens in Birdsville and Coober Pedy but this was the first time we had seen them in their native habitat. (I had refrained from showing them earlier since I knew this shot was coming up).

Sturt's Desert Pea is the state flower of South Australia.

This is my sister's favourite wildflower. She is obsessed with taking photos of them when she is out in the bush. Nicely captured Poppo :) FAV

What a neat image of this interesting flower. What an incredible bus driver to look out for interesting things AND stop, reverse and allow the passengers time to take photos! Fave for the bus driver!

Wow, thanks to the driver, and thanks you share this. I was allways looking for this flower, travelling in Australia. But never found one. Fav, fav, fav.

They are so pretty. They always remind me of my grandmother, as she had them growing in her garden in South Australia.
