Day 17 - Todd River Alice Springs 1

A beautiful old River Red Gum stands guard on the Todd River.
Alice Springs sits on the Todd River and believe it or not, this is the Todd River.
It is only rarely that the Todd has any water in it and the saying goes that you can't consider yourself a local until you have seen the Todd River flood three times.
Every year they hold the Henley-on-Todd Regatta boat race and in 1993, it became the only boat race in the world to be cancelled due to wet weather when there was actually water in the river.
If you Google Todd River Regatta you will get an idea of what it is all about or just have a look at the video clip at http://www.tourism.thealice.com.au/events/august/31-henley-on-todd-regatta-15-august-2015 .

Don't bother to comment - just telling a story.

We have now left the map at http://365project.org/terryliv/from-the-archiv/2015-01-07 showing our tour up to the start of Day 15.

Just watched the regatta and I love it that the only water to be seen is in the tub over the slippery pole fight.
