Kennicott Water Softener by terryliv

Kennicott Water Softener

The remains of an old Kennicott water softener at Beresford siding on the old Ghan railway.

Bore water was used for the old steam powered trains on the old Ghan line. The bore water caused heavy deposits of calcium in the boilers which in turn reduced their efficiency. These large Kennicott water softeners were imported from England and used to remove the calcium from the water.

Once again I need to apologise for the lack of comments. We are currently on the road again and wont be back home until late next week. I'll do as best I can with variable internet connections.
