Day 362 by thendrix58

Day 362

Unexpected babysitting tonight of my neighbor's dog, "Dixie the Runaway". Her family is out of town and this lil girl took a running leap over her electrified fence to come visit. She was scared to death, trembling like crazy, poor thing! We set her up on our back porch, safe & sound. I tried to take some pics of her but the beep of the camera even scared her (which is why it's not as focused as I'd like.) She will be rescued tomorrow. Bill just said, "No, you can't sleep on the porch with her. She'll be fine." (I've done this before, you see. haha!)
Well, glad you rescued her. I'm sure she will have a warm heart for you now.

@henrir Hendri, she's the SWEETEST THING! Tail always wagging and a cute smile on her face, but this was different. The owner said that "she does this every Christmas" when they go out of town. Well, I Guess So! If my family abandoned me for a week, I'd be scared, too! They have someone checking on her everyday but I guess Dixie is such a "people dog" that it freaked her out a little. If we didn't have cats, I'd tell him to let us take care of her when they're gone. So now, the cats are wondering why they can't be on "their porch!" HAHAHA! NEVER a dull moment around this house.......EVER...... :)

Poor sad baby. I don't blame her one bit for choosing to visit the people with the cats rather than sit home another night.

I think your neighbors should find a pet-friendly place to go next holiday! Why put this poor dog through that separation anxiety year after year- not fair to the dog! Well, she knows who to run to, doesn't she? And she looks quite comfy there. Hooray for Terry the Dog Rescuer!!
December 28th, 2012
aweeeeeeeeeee... so sweet.. and you are such a wonderful rescuer!
December 28th, 2012
Cute baby, she will be happy when her family come home.
December 28th, 2012
@swguevin Me either! I'm more of a dog girl and the cats we have were strays! So many times, I pray "Please Lord, don't let me see a stray..." cuz I'd have to bring it home! :) Dixie is one of those animals that has a people soul, if you know what i mean. She's awesome!

@olivetreeann Ann - I agree with you COMPLETELY, but these people are the type that think their pets are just animals, not family. "Oh Dixie? She's a dog." If she were my pet, I'd say, "Oh Dixie? We love her, she's family!" Hence the difference. And you're right - SO glad I live across the street! Your "Terry the Dog Rescuer" comment has pumped my ego up a bit! HA! But if I know you're pet is in distress, I'm Your Girl! :)))))
December 28th, 2012
@cheribug Just thinking that it's gotta be that maternal thing! And when I thought that my talking to her in a low, sweet, comforting voice would make her putty in my hands and didn't, I was so disappointed. I assumed my sweet motherly voice would be magical! Not with this little one!
December 28th, 2012
@gennywren I know she'll be excited but I envision she looking back at our house while she's running to her home thinking, "Wow, those people knew how to spoil me!" HAHAHA!!!
December 28th, 2012
She has a little box around her neck... is this so they can check on her when they are away? I know you can do this - GPS etc. However, they will know she is only a short distance away. I'm surprised they leave a small dog like this! Naughty folks - they don't want to pay for a boarding kennel! I would put an invoice in their letterbox - hours spent - 24 @$10/hour??
December 28th, 2012
I'm so glad she came to your house!!! Poor baby! She knew you were an awesome person! :0)
December 28th, 2012
@maggiemae You are preaching to the choir, Maggie! I completely agree with you! And that little box is what shocks that sweet girl if she tries to cross the invisible line of her yard. She apparently was running and crossed the line, got shocked and kept on running to our house! What's crazy is that I took her shock collar off, carried her back to her house (crossing the invisible fence), then put her collar back on, but within 2 minutes, she was back in our yard! Frankly, I think she just wanted to be around PEOPLE. Yes, I have an issue with my neighbor about this. To put it bluntly, he shouldn't have gotten a pet if he wasn't going to properly take care of it. Common sense but not everyone respects animals. So sad and so true! :(
December 28th, 2012
so there is a failing with that item! It will shock them but if they get frightened, pain will not matter - more safe havens! You are doomed!
December 28th, 2012
I'm glad you're there for this cute little girl!
December 28th, 2012
Nice shot! Nicer neighbor! I love your composition!
December 28th, 2012
99% Terry!
