Fungus in the field... by thewatersphotos

Fungus in the field...

Most of our fungi grow under the trees in our yard. But this one is growing yards away from any tree, out in the open field. Liked the shape.
Lovely closeup

Reminds me of a golf ball on a tee. (Too many hours on and near the golf course on Friday.)

@casablanca Actually I don't either. I took photos Friday at a Golf Tournament.

Fungi can be rather fascinating....I never know whether they are a poisonous variety or not...don’t think I would risk this one but it’s a lovely shape!

Nice shot. Have you identified it yet? I have this site that may help you if so inclined. It is a UK site, so maybe they are different.

@happypat Thanks! I barely eat mushrooms from the grocery, so I would never eat one right from the ground. :- )

@jon_lip Thank you, Jon! That is a wonderful site! This one looks like a couple of them, but interestingly, most like the "Field mushroom".
