Washington Monument by timerskine

Washington Monument

This obelisk, the Washington Monument, was built to commemorate George Washington, commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolution, and first President of the United States (1789 - 1797).

You'll notice that just above the tree line there is a change in the color of the stone (150' up the 555' structure). This is because the construction of the monument started in 1848, but stopped in 1854, due to funding issues (private funding dried up), some internal political issues in the organization building it, and then the Civil War (1861-1865). When building restarted 23 years later, the quarry couldn't produce the same color marble.

You will also notice that the skies are providing me with really bad light. The Monument is white under sunny skies.
Nice. Great info! ( I must tell my kids:) see if they remember, my youngest loves the history of the second war for some reason and liked our visit to DC)

Hi Tim, thank you for the get pushed challenge, I will do my best ;)
For your challenge, how about a shot with refractions in a glass for your inspiration I included a site with work from Suzanne Saroff https://www.anothermag.com/art-photography/10825/this-new-york-based-artist-is-finding-new-depth-in-a-glass-of-water
Let me know if this doesn’t work for you and I find something else.
