My Get Pushed Challenge for this week was to shoot my favorite (or more accurately, favourite) seasonal view. Right now, that would be Christmas lights.
The Illuminate Light Show (ILS) is a drive-through holiday light show in central Virginia at Meadow Event Park* in Doswell, right next to King's Dominion Amusement Park. The lights flicker and dance to synchronized music that plays over a low-power FM transmitter you listen to in your car as you wend your way through the exhibit.
This shot shows only a small fraction of the show. I am standing on a hill about a half mile from the entrance (the little purple shack in the lower left is the admission booth). The conical structure in the upper left is not a part of ILS. That is Kings Dominion's 1/3 scale replica of the Eiffel Tower, decorated for their Winterfest. It is about 2 miles from where I got this photo. Needless to say, the cold, clear air was prime photography material.
*Meadow Event Park is where the Virginia State Fair is held. It was originally called Meadow Farm. It is where Secretariat, one of the greatest race horses ever, was born, raised and trained. He won the Triple Crown in 1973, winning the Belmont Stakes by a mind-boggling 31 lengths.
