High Tension Eagle by timerskine

High Tension Eagle

Walking along the James River flood wall across from downtown Richmond with the Missus this afternoon I spotted a suspicious dark object lodged at the top of a high tension tower that sits in the river but near the bank on the other side.

I got my camera out, extended to full zoom, and with significant cropping in PS, I confirmed my suspicions: it's a Bald Eagle (Haliaeetus leucocephalus) in its nest!

According to Google Maps, it's about 2,000 feet / 610 meters from where we were standing to the tower. So the pictures from that spot, while totally unobstructed, aren't going to get any better than this one. This means that there will be some serious scouting of potential viewing spots on the north bank in downtown Richmond proper.
Interesting spot for a nest
