"l" is for lantern

I really wanted to take the kids camping this summer but it just didn't happen so we created our own little camping experience! Crafts included the "l" lantern (I know, this one is a stretch, but I had to get creative since we are running out of letters!), a hand print campfire, and painting with marshmallows. We also visited a campground in Seattle, took a hike, and brought home some nature items to make a sun catcher. A fun learning activity we did is making letter logs and had them spell their names by feeding the iPad fire the logs. We of course had to make s'mores (yum!) and made a fort that took up our whole living room. We read camping stories under the blankets using a flashlight and my little boy "slept under the stars" every night, thanks to his special turtle night light. We ended the week with our own little camping trip to our living room. We packed our bags (lantern, sleeping bags, "tent" (sheet), trail mix, waters, and of course he couldn't forget his phone...definitely a 21st century kid!), and packed up the "car" to drive to our campsite. On the way to the campsite we sang "A Camping We Will Go". We unloaded the "car", set up camp and made a "campfire". After we were done, we put out the fire, packed up, and drove "home". Not like the real thing, but we certainly had fun! :)
Great idea. The weather is still sunny....you should go camping!
