Rowan by tonygig

Rowan

This is one of the trees I grow in my garden for the birds in the winter months, its a Mountain Ash ( Rowan ) I grow it for the Berries and the birds love them.
This is lovely Tony --the berries seem to be ripening early-this year --if I an correct !!

Gorgeous, glossy rowan berries, Tony, will they last till winter?!
July 31st, 2013
@ivan Thank you Ivan, they should do, the birds eat the red fruits first then the orange, then the yellow. If you want the fruits for deep winter you grow the yellow.

That a lovely tree but i suppose it makes quite a mess, but at least it brings a lot of birds.

@carwyn3 Thank you Mervyn, I prune the trees so they are only about eight to ten feet high then it makes it easy to look after and they don't take up much room.

Such beautiful color!!! Are the berries edible for humans? Nice capture!

@eyesmile Thank you Gena, the berries are very bitter they say some people make jam from the berries, also crush them and make a drink from them, but I have never tried it.
