Princess Anne The Jockey.
Her Royal Highness, Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise, The Princess Royal wearing racing silks of light blue shirt, brown sleeves and blue cap in the parade ring with other jockeys before riding her horse to victory in the third race of the day.
Her horse, wearing a white noseband, is alert with ears pricked and looks straight at the camera as the shutter clicks.
In accordance with a request from the the English Jockey Club at Newmarket, in 1762, owners were required to submit specific colours for their jacket and cap to help identify the horses running in a race.
These jockey silks featured solid colours and geometric designs to make it easier for the public to identify the horse they may have backed.
Traditionally there were strict rules on the type of design for each silk.
Owners could choose from 18 basic colours, used in conjunction with 25 shapes for the jacket and 12 sleeve markings; along with 10 possible cap designs, to distinguish different horses belonging to to the same owner in any given race.
Recently the British Horseracing Authority relaxed their rules, allowing owners to register their own design of bespoke jockey silk on payment of £5,000.
Princess Anne received the title Princess Royal from The Queen on 13th June 1987, the seventh person in history to hold the title.
