WGI Regionals

We spent the entire day hosting a WGI event at our school.
And WGI means?
Looks fun whatever it is :)

@rvm Winter Guard International, and this is our guard pictured. They are one of the oldest color guard units that is still active. They are the Chapparals. Thanks for asking!

@tskipper It's so interesting seeing facets of people's lives in other cultures through their photos :)

@rvm hey, your bio says you worked with the hearing impaired?

@tskipper Yep - with students who use BSL, cochlear implants sometimes, not always. I help them with written English (BSL grammar is very different!), communicating when in groups, essay planning and writing, and take notes when they need to look at a signer. Notes so a BSL signer can understand them, so modified. Plus I make sure the classroom environment etc is as accessible as can be.

@rvm My daughter has a cochlear implant. She was implanted at 20 months old in 2002.

@tskipper I hope she is getting on well :)
Does she need her teachers to use a radio microphone in class?
Many of my students were implanted far later, after language development, age 8 and above, even as teens.

@rvm In elementary school, the classrooms had FM systems in the ceilings. The teacher wore a microphone and the sounds went to her processor. Now, in high school with so many classes, she doesn't use the FM system. Mostly preferential seating and teachers knowing to look at her when they talk. Her twin sister has normal hearing.
