The baby galahs are out of their nests.
Early in the morning, the parents settled them high in the canopy of the trees around the house and head off to forage for the day. On sunset they return and what a raucous noise erupts as parents and babies reunite.
The parents come in pairs and with that uncanny ability to recognise Mum from the crowd, the babies drop from the trees in ones and twos to follow their parents to the fences and trees around the cattle troughs where the parents drink. They pester Mum and Dad until a meal is presented. Then with the parent birds around to protect them from a pair of hawks who are also raising a baby, its time to play and hone flying skills before settling for the night...most entertaining. You are constantly in danger of being hit by low flying pink flashes!!!
This is just one of the many who spent their day waiting patiently for mum high in the thick canopy of a tree in my front garden. Thanks to a zoom lense I was able to capture this little cutie before he moved higher up the tree away from prying cameras.
