Emu With Chicks by ubobohobo

Emu With Chicks

We were having a lunch meeting for QCWA at our president's house yesterday afternoon. That's about a thirty minute drive on this dirt road. As we drove out through the rain, at the top of the range we came on this emu family.

In the emu family it is the male who incubates the eggs and raises the young. This diligent father led his two chicks to safety and then moved down the road towards us to make sure I did nothing more than step out of the car and take a photo.

(QCWA stands for Queensland Country Women's Asociation.)
Now there's a sight you don't see every day!! At least not here in the US. ;0) Hehehehe! Wonderful shot!

@gardengal Thanks Amber. You don't see it every day in Australia either. At least I did have my camera with me when the occasion arose!

This is a great capture, Margaret. Not often you see them like this, even in Oz. Those chicks are almost full-grown and he's still looking after them.
