The Cherry Reds by ubobohobo

The Cherry Reds

With the arrival of spring our Santa Gertrudis are starting to shed their winter coats and return to the beautiful dark red colour that gives them their nickname "the cherry reds". Green grass means the morning ritual of feeding out hay will soon come to an end and this mob will need to begin fending for themselves. "Enjoy it while you can boys and girls."
I've never heard of this breed - what a wonderful mahogany colour! Pity you can't shear them and knit up large!

No I have never heard of this breed either Margaret but my word aren't they beautiful....a very apt name too! Feeding out are words familiar to me! Always work on a farm every day!

They are a great color. This picture is definitely better in color! I bet they love getting at the fresh young grass too.

@skippysue Yes Sue . We've been breeding Santa's since the 1980s and sell all our calves at the size the smaller ones are in this picture. The two bigger ones were washed away in the 2013 Australia Day floods when they were small and were only found 2 months ago about 30km from where they were picked up by the flood waters. Don't know what they did in the intervening 18months.

Well fed indeed! And what a relief not to have to feed them every day. Such a striking colour making a great contrast with the green grass.
