Rainbow bee-eaters migrate between New Guinea and Australia. Their arrival, late August this year, but usually in September signals Spring has arrived. They like our sandy soil because they tunnel into the sand to make their nests. At present the sandy ridge through the bull paddock is alive with nesting pairs and the sky filled with swooping birds and snapping beaks. Such pretty little birds, always on the move in search of the bees, wasps, dragonflies and other flying insects that they source for food. One of my favourite birds but I'm not a beekeeper trying to make a living out of honey.
A fav.
