The hens were cackling over the top of a screeching cockatoo across at the chook pen. I thought an eagle must have caught a cockatoo but I was wrong. The cockatoo who was safely up in a tree shouting his warning had now been joined by two crows. Then the pee wees(birds) started flipping something behind the weeds. Oh no an eagle has one of my turkeys for sure. I rushed over to see only to come face to face with this, a goanna (Monitor lizard). Goannas were plentiful before the cane toads were introduced but numbers have declined dramatically around here with the introduction of the toad. This is only the second one I've seen since I returned to the valley in 2000 so I'm quite excited. But goannas like eggs. I might not be as happy tomorrow if the eggs start disappearing.
Great capture and very interesting information!

Absolutely love it. What an amazing nature shot. Lock the henhouse door, Margaret, but don't hurt the lizard.
