The birds were creating such a commotion. I knew a predator had to be in the vicinity. Peewees, the foxy dogs of the bird world, were flipping something in the grass and screeching loudly. The choughs were clustered together giving each other the courage to investigate. The magpies and crows were overseeing operations while the cockatoos in the top most branches of the gum trees were sounding the alarm for all to hear. I had to investigate and there it was. A huge carpet snake "hidden" in the grass, perfectly still and ignoring the commotion. I could almost hear him saying, "Get out of here. Can't a snake have some peace?"
